About the transit

This is a once-in-a-lifetime transit of Pluto that will soon conjoin Mars (in Capricorn) in my natal chart and is already beginning a long opposition transit to a stellium of planets in Cancer, beginning with Jupiter.

I'll try to update this weekly, but you get the picture. Thanks to the good folks at AstroDienst for the chart construction services.

I will be using twitter to record my observations, related only to this transit and related issues, nothing else; see the Twitter feed

Timeline

Pluto entered Capricorn on 26 January 2008. It went retrograde in early April, back into Sagittarius, until late November 2008. That last hurrah in the sign it had been transiting since 1995 saw the culmination of an era in the meltdown of the global economy.

It's interesting to contemplate the character of the era from 1995 until today, although the economic crisis is more suitably characterized by the opposition of Saturn to Uranus, which Pluto squares. In brief : profound restructuring of established institutions. The Plutonian involvement in the Saturn-Uranus opposition suggests the restructuring will be characterized by powerful instinctual processes that engage in reflection only after the fact (see Richard Tarnas' excellent book Cosmos & Psyche). Not a comforting thought for the lords of finance.

This project is being initiated on 24 November 2009, with Pluto exactly opposite Jupiter for the third time in a year. I don't see any value in "projecting backwards" - it's too easy to "see" things in hindsight. Hopefully the tweets will capture my moment-to-moment experience and anyone interested will be able to map them to aspects after the fact, if that seems worthwhile.

"Projecting forward" can be just as bogus, so while I will not refrain from taking note of an upcoming aspect and speculating on it, I will keep my real-time reports as candid and unprejudiced as possible.

Here's the latest relevant real-time blog entry.
