Heather Williams, H.W., M.
Heather is a Mentor who has been working the The Prosperos' signature methodologies since 1970. She has brought this perspective to her work and teaching of art and is presently working with at-risk children in the San Diego public school system.
Translation® and Releasing the Hidden Splendour™ are two dynamic processes that I have been employing in my life on a fairly regular basis since 1970. Based upon a core teaching from the Oral Tradition of long ago, Translation and RHS help me to remember and live the truth that, “Back and behind the universe of time, space and change is a fundamental Reality that is Whole, Complete and Perfect.” I am not here to change any “thing”. I am here to change my consciousness. In transformative times such as these, I feel it safe to say that we all are here to change our consciousness. I have to maintain an open mind and a willingness to change my consciousness daily in my work as a public school teacher.
Presently, I am facilitating the Lindamood-Bell Reading and Thinking Program in a public
school district in North San Diego County. My students are 9th
graders with a history of academic failure. Most are living in poor
neighborhoods with easy access to drugs, gangs, and other stressful living
conditions. I am teaching a process of thinking rather than specific content,
(math, literature, history or science). I use Socratic questioning everyday to
draw out the innate good in my students. Additionally, I teach drawing and
painting at a local art foundation on weekends and am making plans to teach
Translation and RHS in 2009.
Previously, I worked with Louise Hay for 10 years as an Associate Teacher for her International Teacher Trainings in Australia, England, Canada, Mexico, Italy and cities around the US. I also worked as an art teacher for Artreach, a nonprofit agency that hired artists to work with people with special needs: People with developmental disabilities, homelessness, drug and alcohol issues, bulimia, manic depression, schizophrenia, traumatic brain injury, cancer, AIDS and Alzheimers disease. All people have a story. The arts help us re-write some of the story.
