POET'S CORNER

A haiku is a type of short-form poem that originated in Japan. Haiku poems are typically written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. They are unrhymed, but some poets may choose to rhyme the first and third lines for added challenge. Haiku poems often focus on nature or the seasons, and emphasize simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.

FLAKES FILTERS

frosty flakes fall down                                         words fall out of mouths

melting immediately                             some true, some not, all at once

gone in a moment                                                    truth must be filtered

       AWARENESS                                                                OPPOSITION

when truth comes forward                         can a truth exist

it can whimper or ignite                              in direct opposition

a new awareness                                             to lies in our heart

DARKNESS                                                                            QUIET

a heart's own darkness                                     the dark hours thrive

can stifle the golden core                            on isolation and fear

seeking nirvana                                                        keeping truth quiet
