Poet's Corner

A haiku is a type of short-form poem that originated in Japan. Haiku poems are typically written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. They are unrhymed, but some poets may choose to rhyme the first and third lines for added challenge. Haiku poems often focus on nature or the seasons, and emphasize simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.

A day of reflections on animals and birds:

KITTEN                                                                        GOAT

pink nose and foot pads                           long soft ears drape face

tail straight up with wobbly gait           large soulful eyes gaze at world

kitten goes exploring                                gentle Nubian 

SQUIRREL                                                        GEESE

tail whips around                                     moving lake to lake

intelligent eyes search ground            blue sky shows off flight pattern

food cache under foot                            happy honking heard

BLUE JAY                                                    BUNNY

shrill caws bring others                        belly flops on grass

blue jay announces food source          morning dew gives silky bath

feeder box fills fast                                   green blades to nibble
