Poet's Corner

A haiku is a type of short-form poem that originated in Japan. Haiku poems are typically written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. They are unrhymed, but some poets may choose to rhyme the first and third lines for added challenge. Haiku poems often focus on nature or the seasons, and emphasize simplicity, intensity, and directness of expression.

wind pelted rain drops                                    slate gray sky hovers

drum tattoo sounds on the roof                    metallic odor hangs near

music to dry earth                                                thunder storm at noon

SHADOWS                                                        SPATTER

soot colored shadows                                    spots spatter side walk

over cast layer of clouds                                smells like rain is in distance

not even birds seen                                        then rain felt on face

BATH                                                                    FLOOD

irrigation spray                                                drops bead on car hood

geese in flight form lazy arcs                    rivulets form glistening streams

unexpected bath                                            miniature flood
